Actrița Valeria Seciu a murit marți, la 83 de ani. Trupul neînsufleţi va fi depus, miercuri la capelă, la cimitirul Bellu. Va fi înmormântată joi, lângă cel care i-a fost soț, marele Octavian Cotescu, plecat dintre noi în 22 august 1985.
Valeria Seciu s-a îndrăgostit, încă din timpul studenţiei, de profesorul său, Octavian Cotescu. S-a căsătorit cu el după absolvirea Institutului de Teatru. În anul 1968, s-a născut fiul lor, Alexandru, care a absolvit două facultăţi, iar din anul 2000 a ales să-l slujească pe Dumnezeu, devenind călugăr la Muntele Athos.
Valeria Seciu a rămas văduvă la doar 46 de ani. Octavian Cotescu avea 54 de ani, când a suferit, cel mai probabil, un AVC provocat de stresul profesional intens. De atunci, Valeria Seciu a ales să nu-şi mai refacă viaţa cu un alt bărbat.
Valeria Seciu a fost colegă de promoție cu Ion Caramitru, Ovidiu Iuliu Moldovan şi cu alţi artişti din generaţia de aur. Ultimul ei rol jucat a fost la TVR, în piesa „Livada de Vişini”.

Uniunea Teatrală din România și-a exprimat tristețea la aflarea veștii trecerii în neființă a Valeriei Seciu:
„Am aflat cu tristețe că în dimineața zilei de 6 septembrie ne-a părăsit extraordinara actriță de teatru, film, radio și televiziune, VALERIA SECIU. Vom reveni mâine cu detalii despre înmormântare.Dumnezeu să o ierte și să o odihnească.”
Valeria Seciu s-a născut la 1 august 1939 la Bucureşti într-o familie de oameni obișnuiți.
În perioada 1960-1964 a frecventat Institutul de Artă Teatrală şi Cinematografică „I.L. Caragiale” din Bucureşti, la clasa profesorului A. Pop Marțian, care-l avea ca asistent pe Octavian Cotescu, cel care, ulterior, avea să-i devină soț Valeriei Seciu.
La terminarea facultății, după un stagiu de doi ani la teatrul din Cluj-Napoca, Valeria Seciu a debutat pe scena Teatrului Național din București, în rolul Veronicăi Micle în spectacolul „Eminescu” de Mircea Ștefănescu, în regia lui Sică Alexandrescu.
A făcut parte din trupa Naționalului bucureștean până în 1977, după care a trecut la Teatrul Mic, condus atunci de Dinu Săraru. Aici, a interpretat marile roluri care au făcut-o celebră, majoritatea în spectacole regizate de Cătălina Buzoianu: Ersilia Drei din „Să-i îmbrăcăm pe cei goi” de Luigi Pirandello, Margareta din „Maestrul și margareta” după romanul cu același titlu al lui Mihail Bulgakov sau Marguerite Gauthier din „Dama cu camelii” a lui Alexandre Dumas.
După 1989, Valeria Seciu a înfiinţat una dintre primele trupe independente, Teatrul Levant.
